Dr. Vikoren specializes in hip and knee replacements as well as the repair of complex fractures, particularly around joint replacements. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He successfully completed a prestigious fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Hip and Knee Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.
While at medical school, Dr. Vikoren was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the University of Pittsburgh Medical School Alumni Association Research Scholarship. He has participated in a variety of research projects and presented on his findings. He has authored several articles for professional publications.
Dr. Vikoren became interested in orthopedics while studying Physics at Dartmouth College. Orthopedics allows him to combine his mechanical interests with his desire to positively impact people's lives. He is particularly interested in the science behind joint replacements and the improvements in both implant technology and surgical techniques. At the same time, he is cautious not to embrace new technologies without having seen proven results.
